Surrounded by picturesque countryside, Penistone is a fantastic place, and base when exploring the beautiful Peak District National Park.  Many of our guests who holiday with us, spend their days sightseeing, hiking, cycling, fishing and shopping in the small stone villages and market towns that surround us.

We love where we live, and hope to share it all with you!

Below are just a few popular attractions close to Lyndene.

The Trans Pennine Trail,

Full of wild flowers and scenic pathways, the TPT passes straight through Penistone.  So, if you enjoy cycling, or you are cycling the Coast-to-Coast, Lyndene is the perfect place to stay.

Penistone

The highest market town in the county, and one of the Pennine’s best kept secrets: there’s something here for everyone, from the annual Penistone Show to stunning walking scenery!  We even have a charming cinema (Picture House) that first opened its doors in 1914.

The Peak District National Park

The Peak District starts just 4 miles away from Lyndene, and most areas in the park can be easily reached within 45 minutes.  Hike up Mam Tor, Derwent Edge or Kinder Scout (the park’s highest point), the views are spectacular!  Meander through beautiful valleys, full of flora and fauna, stopping at one of the local inns for drinks, or cafes for cream teas.

The Peak District National Park has something for everyone, and makes a great holiday destination.  After a delicious breakfast, head off to Chatsworth House, Ladybower, Castleton, Bakewell, Hathersage or Edale.

There are just so many places to mention!

The Kirklees’ Light Railway. Travel in beautiful, hand-painted carriages behind one of Yorkshire’s great little steam trains.  The journey transports you through the foothills of the south Pennines.  A great day out for families!

Cannon Hall is set in beautiful grounds, close to Lyndene.  Cannon Hall hosts an animal farm (perfect for children), a great farm shop, a garden centre, a beautiful walled garden and a few excellent cafes.  A must visit when staying with us!

The Yorkshire Sculpture Park is another great day out for families.  Set in lovely grounds, filled with fun and unusual sculptures, there are lakes to walk around, and there is a lovely cafe.
